OKLAHOMA CITY – It may be less than a month-and-a-half old, but 2019 is turning into quite a year for Josh Garcia.

After signing his first professional contract with OKC Energy FC on January 10, the former USL League Two standout for Energy FC U23 on Friday earned his first international call-up as he was selected to the Dominican Republic’s squad for a home exhibition against Guadeloupe on February 16 in Santo Domingo.

“I can’t even put it into words”, said Garcia. “I’ve trained my whole life, worked hard and was always ready for something to come. Now, I’ve got the opportunity to go and hopefully make the final roster for the final Concacaf Nations League game.”

Garcia was captain of Energy FC U23 in the 2018 USL League Two campaign and recorded two goals and four assists in 11 appearances as the side finished second in the Mid South Division.

The Dominican Republic currently sits in the 10th and final place in qualifying for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup with two victories and one defeat in its opening three games. It will face Bermuda, which sits in seventh place, on March 24 in the final game of qualifying, which is also serving as the sorting tournament for the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League.
