OKC soccer star's meteoric rise continues, as Josh Garcia earns first national team call-up.

Energy FC midfielder Josh Garcia has been called up to the Dominican Republic national team to participate in training camp and an international friendly before the next round of the Concacaf Nations League tournament.

Garcia will fly to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Monday, February 11 to train and will play in an exhibition against the Guadeloupe national team on February 16. Garcia will return to Oklahoma City on February 17 to rejoin Energy FC ahead of their preseason trip to Tucson, Ariz.

Garcia, a graduate of US Grant High School in Oklahoma City, captained the Energy FC U23 team in 2018 and signed his first professional contract with the Energy FC first team on January 10, 2019.

“I can’t even put it into words”, said Garcia. “I’ve trained my whole life, worked hard and was always ready for something to come. Now, I’ve got the opportunity to go and hopefully make the final roster for the final Concacaf Nations League game.”

To recognize Garcia’s accomplishments, Energy FC are hosting a signing party for the local hero on Monday, February 18 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Cantera Event Center located at 1 SE 59th St. Suite E, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73129. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

Energy FC have had five players earn international call-ups while with the club. In addition to Garcia, Cody Laurendi (Puerto Rico), Atiba Harris (Saint Kitts & Nevis), Jaime Siaj (Jordan) and Coy Craft (U.S. U-20 team) have all received the honor.

Energy FC begin the 2019 season on the road against expansion club El Paso Locomotive FC Saturday, March 9. The first home match will be against Las Vegas Lights FC Saturday, March 16 at Taft Stadium.
