Alex Dixon’s team-leading 11th goal of the season wasn’t enough to give Energy FC the win, as Sebastian Saucedo’s brace helped Real Monarchs SLC take all three points Wednesday night at Zions Bank Stadium.

Chances for both sides were scarce early on until Chandler Hoffman laid a ball off to Saucedo in the 17th minute. The midfielder took his shot first-time and struck an unstoppable volley from the top of the penalty area that found the side netting to put the hosts ahead.

The lead was short-lived, when just five minutes later, Marco Bustos slipped in Deshorn Brown with a through ball behind the SLC defense. Brown attempted to touch the ball around Monarchs goalkeeper Connor Sparrow, but Brown was too quick and Sparrow took him down inside the box to give OKC a penalty. Up stepped Dixon, who sent Sparrow the wrong way and slotted the ball down the middle to level the score.

Shortly after the second-half restart, the hosts took the lead again. Once more, Saucedo was the scorer after a well-worked buildup. Maikel Chang’s cross from the right found Saucedo open in the box, and his first-time finish in the 48th minute from near the penalty spot was placed out of reach of a diving Cody Laurendi.

The Monarchs defended well for the remainder of the match to allow OKC very few chances in the second half and were able to see out the 2-1 victory.

The Greens have a bit of a break before the last match of 2018 against Saint Louis FC. Kickoff for that one is Saturday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. from Toyota Stadium, and as always, you can watch live on ESPN+.
