Energy FC did the season double over Las Vegas Lights FC with a 1-0 victory at Cashman Field on Saturday night. A 73rd-minute goal from new signing Deshorn Brown and a club record 11 saves in league play by Cody Laurendi gave the Greens all three points on the road in Vegas.

Laurendi’s busy night began early, as Las Vegas midfielder Raul Mendiola’s chance in the second minute was turned away by the Energy FC no. 1 to keep the match scoreless.

Lights striker Carlos Alvarez nearly put the home side ahead in 34th minute, but again, Laurendi was up to the task to deny the striker in another one-on-one situation.

Chances for the Greens were few and far between in the opening half, with Marco Bustos coming closest in the 19th minute with a 35-yard free kick that forced Las Vegas goalkeeper Thomas Olsen into a good save.

After the break, Energy FC increased the pressure and had a couple of good chances to take the lead through Christian Volesky in the 55th minute and Deshorn Brown in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, Volesky couldn’t find the target, and Olsen came up with a big save to momentarily deny Brown his first goal for the club.

Just ten minutes later, second-half substitute Jon Brown’s perfect cross from the right wing found Deshorn Brown all alone at the back post and the striker was able to poke the ball home to put the Greens ahead.

Resolute defending and outstanding goalkeeping from Laurendi preserved the lead, as Energy FC held on to earn three points in OKC’s first-ever match in Las Vegas.

Energy FC’s penultimate match of 2018 is this Wednesday in Salt Lake City against Real Monarchs SLC. Kickoff for that one is 8:00 p.m. CST from Zion’s Bank Stadium, and as always, you can watch live on ESPN+.
