Energy FC and Sacramento Republic FC battled for 90 minutes, but neither side was able to break down the other and find the back of the net.
Chances were few and far between in the first half, but Jose Barril had the best opportunity to open the scoring in the 33rd minute. Marco Bustos drifted from right to left across the top of the penalty area and found Barril, who was able to create a yard of space before firing a left-footed shot that soared over the goal.
The second half was similar to the first in terms of the defenses remaining stubborn, but the Greens created the better of the chances and probably should have taken all three points.
Bustos nearly opened the scoring in the 67th minute, after Barril’s cut back found him all alone at the penalty spot. The midfielder’s first-time effort was struck well, but Sacramento goalkeeper Josh Cohen made a great save to keep the match scoreless.
Adam Jahn came within inches of putting the Greens ahead in the 77th minute. The striker brought down a bouncing ball before unleashing a volley that just skipped wide of the post.
In stoppage time, second-half substitute Deshorn Brown nearly opened his account on his Energy FC debut, but his shot on the turn was hit right at Cohen.
The Greens are now on 39 points and remain in 10th place - seven points off 8th place Reno 1868 FC.
Energy FC end the season with a three-match road trip, beginning with a trip to Las Vegas next Saturday to take on Las Vegas Lights FC. Kickoff for that one is 10:00 p.m. CST from Cashman Field.
