Energy FC won their third match in a row and handed Rio Grande Valley FC Toros just their second home loss of the season, with a 4-2 victory at H-E-B Park on Saturday night. A brace from Christian Volesky and goals from Alex Dixon and Adam Jahn were more than enough to give the Greens the points in what proved to be an entertaining match.

There wasn’t much action in the early stages, as Christian Ibeagha went down injured with what appeared to be a muscle injury. The defender had to be replaced by Richard Dixon after just 11 minutes.

Volesky came close to opening the scoring in the 21st and 32nd minutes, but a good defensive play and a save from goalkeeper Nicolas Corti denied the striker momentarily. Volesky made his third chance count in the 34th minute, however. Jose Barril spotted the open striker, and Volesky took a couple of touches before unleashing a shot from just inside the penalty area to the top right corner of the goal.

Two minutes later, Barril was again the provider, as he found Dixon with a ball over the top of the defense. Dixon calmly brought the ball down with one touch and unleashed a ferocious strike that was past Corti before he could even react.

In first half stoppage time, the Toros got back into the match. Matias Zaldivar scored off a corner kick just before the halftime whistle to cut the lead to one.

The Greens regained the two-goal advantage in the 54th minute, when Dixon found Volesky in the box with a perfect cross from the right wing. Volesky was able to get a foot to the ball ahead of the defender and flick it past Corti for his second goal on the night.

In the 67th minute, Richard Dixon found Adam Jahn with a long ball over the top. Corti got a hand to the first attempt, but Jahn stuck with it and put the rebound home.

RGV made things interesting in the 79th minute when Justin Chavez was called for a foul in the box. Todd Wharton stepped up to score the penalty and cut the deficit to two goals again.

As they did for most of the match, the Greens continued to play comfortably and confidently for the final ten minutes and held on to seal the points.

Energy FC are back at home in their next match on Saturday, August 25 to face Seattle Sounders FC 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Taft Stadium.
