Energy FC picked up a valuable point away from home against Sacramento Republic FC thanks to a second-half goal from Christian Volesky. The draw extends OKC’s unbeaten run to seven straight matches – the third longest streak in club history.

There wasn’t much happening on the attacking end for the Greens in the opening 45 minutes, as the hosts held a significant edge in possession and created the majority of the chances. Sacramento’s pressure finally paid off in the 23rd minute when a missed clearance fell to Cameron Iwasa at the top of the box. The USL Player of the Week took advantage with a first-time volley that flew into the back of the net.

OKC set up to absorb pressure and hit Republic FC on the counter attack, but chances in the first half for the Greens were few and far between. The best opportunity came after a nice passing sequence that led to a corner kick in the 34th minute. The outswinger was knocked down to Christian Voleksy, but the striker wasn’t able to get a clean shot on goal and Sacramento goalkeeper Josh Cohen comfortably made the save.

The second half was a much different story, as Energy FC dominated and were the better side for the remainder of the match. Alex Dixon came close to leveling the score in the 54th minute, after picking up the ball in his own half, driving two thirds of the length of the pitch and unleashing a shot from 20 yards that clipped the crossbar.

Sacramento appeared to be trying to hold onto the one-goal lead, as wave after wave of OKC attack came without really being able to threaten Cohen. A shot from Callum Ross was hit right to the keeper, and Jose Barril tried to curl one in but couldn’t quite pick out the top corner.

The Greens were finally rewarded in the 78th minute. Christian Ibeagha dribbled past his man and found Ross open on the right. Ross delivered a perfect cross across the box and into the path of Volesky, who was able to turn the ball into the back of the net.

The goal extended Energy FC’s scoring streak to 11 matches – the second-longest such streak in club history. The Greens head back home to take on Fresno FC at Taft Stadium on Wednesday night. Kickoff for that one is 7:30 p.m., and tickets for the match are available at energyfc.com/july25 or by calling 405-235-KICK(5425).
