Energy FC signed New Zealand national team member Monty Patterson, Head Coach Steve Cooke announced today.  The transaction is pending approval from U.S. Soccer Federation and the league.

Born in New Zealand, the midfielder has represented his country at the U17, U20, U23 and national team levels.  Since 2013, he’s played in 30 matches for his country, including 15 for the national team.  He scored his first national team goal for New Zealand in a 1-1 draw with the U.S. national team in 2016.

Patterson has played professionally with Ipswich Town in England and most recently with Wellington Phoenix of the A-League, the top tier of the Australian league system.

“We are delighted to have added a player of such excellent attacking quality to our roster.  Monty has valuable experience of playing with and against players of the highest international quality and has performed well at that level,” said Cooke.  “Once again, we are happy to bring in a player that has the talent to succeed at a high level and possesses the work ethic necessary to move our team forward. We look forward to welcoming Monty to Energy FC and the Oklahoma City community.”

Energy FC returns to action this Saturday with a key road match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.  Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. (ct).
