Energy FC goalkeeper Matt VanOekel is out of the remainder of the season after undergoing successful surgery, Head Coach Steve Cooke announced today.

VanOekel suffered an injury to the upper part of his right leg in the team’s 1-1 draw against Colorado Springs on July 7.  The injury required surgery to repair.  He’s expected to be sidelined for the next four months.

“First and foremost, we feel for Matt as he begins the challenge of recovery and rehabilitation.  Losing Matt is a blow for our club, but given his dedication and hard work, we know he will return to the team stronger, fitter and better than ever,” said Cooke.  Matt is a proven to be a leader and although he won’t be on the field during our upcoming games, we know he will give a great deal to the team during training sessions and be a presence in the community as he fully recovers.”

Energy FC returns to action Saturday on the road against Sacramento Republic FC.  Kickoff is 10 p.m.  The next home matches are Wednesday, July 25 against Fresno and Saturday, July 28 against San Antonio. Kickoff for both home matches is 7:30 p.m.
