Energy FC extended their unbeaten streak to five straight with a 1-1 draw against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
Alex Dixon staked The Greens to a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Jose Barril was able to work the ball quickly to Dixon who took two touches and pounded the ball past Switchbacks FC goalkeeper Moise Pouaty. This is the second time in as many games the two have connected to score a fantastic goal.
During Energy FC’s match against San Antonio, Dixon fed Barril who scored one of the prettiest goals of the season.
Colorado Springs came out swinging in the second half and they were rewarded with a goal in the 47th minute. Midfielder Sam Hamilton found forward Shane Malcom just outside the 18-yard box. Malcom worked into the left side of the box and was able to send it just past Energy FC goalkeeper Matt VanOekel.
Just five minutes later, VanOekel left the match with a leg injury and was replaced by Bryan Byars. This was the first appearance of the match for Byars. Colorado Springs wasted no time in testing Byars who had to make a save on the first shot he faced.
The teams traded opportunities for the remainder of the half, but neither side was able to score the deciding goal.
The draw for Energy FC extends their unbeaten streak to five matches and improves their record in their last nine matches to 4-2-3.
Part of the team’s run of form during the last nine matches is the fact they have continued to score goals. The team has scored at least one goal in nine straight matches, the third longest streak in franchise history.
Energy FC returns to game action Wednesday at home against Las Vegas Lights FC. Kickoff for this nationally televised game is 7 p.m. The game can be seen nationwide on ESPN News and is the USL Game of the Week
