For the sixth time in the history between the clubs, Energy FC and San Antonio FC battled to a draw, after a USL goal-of-the-week candidate from Jose Barril was cancelled out by a fine strike from Alex Bruce.

The first half was fairly even between the two sides, with a slight edge to OKC based on the better scoring opportunities. The best of the bunch came in the 16th minute when Alex Dixon played a diagonal ball over the top of the SAFC backline that fell to Miguel Gonzalez. Miggy collected and got a shot off, but it was straight at Matt Cardone and saved.

Just two minutes later, another great ball from Dixon found Christian Volesky doing what he does so often – sneaking in behind the defense. Unfortunately, Cardone was quick off his line and was able to clear the danger again.

San Antonio had several chances in the first half, although all of them came from outside the box. Ryan Roushandel tried his luck from thirty yards out in the 26th minute, but Matt VanOekel was able to dive low and to his right, get a hand on the ball and save it out for a corner kick. Omar Gordon had a shot from the top of the D two minutes later, but again, MVO was able to get down low and make another save.

The Greens started out the second half by pressing San Antonio and created several good chances in the opening 15 minutes. Cardone was called upon in the 54th minute to deny what would have been a tap in for Volesky, and just eight minutes later, Cardone came up big again to deny Christian Ibeagha’s powerful drive from inside the box.

A moment of top-class football opened the scoring in the 68th minute. Barril found Dixon all alone on the right wing. Barril then took off into the box, and Dixon’s cross was met with an incredible side volley from the Spaniard that bent into the back of the net. We’ll likely be seeing that one again as nominee for goal of the week and potentially a spot on SportsCenter's Top 10.

The hosts leveled the score in the 77th minute when Bruce picked up a loose ball in the midfield and curled a spectacular shot up and over VanOekel from 25 yards out.

Just three minutes later, a wild sequence took place. It looked like OKC would take the lead again when Barril took advantage of a sloppy back pass and was 2v1 on goal with Jaime Siaj. Barril cut back and opted to try and set up Siaj, but the pass was blocked away. Barril got to the loose ball first and looked to have been fouled in the box by Cyprian Hedrick, but the referee waved it off.

San Antonio then went the other way on the counter attack and Bruce had a chance to win the match, but his wide-open header from six yards out went straight down into the ground and bounced over the goal.

The draw extends Energy FC’s unbeaten run to four matches, as the Greens welcome Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC to Taft Stadium on Saturday night. Kickoff for that one is 7:30 p.m., and tickets for the match are available at energyfc.com or by calling 405-235-KICK(5425).
