Energy FC won their first match away from home in 2018, after goals from Jaime Siaj and Christian Ibeagha led the Greens to victory over Portland Timbers 2 Wednesday night at Providence Park.

OKC started off high pressing T2 and were nearly rewarded in the 1st minute when Francis Atuahene flashed a shot just past the post. The tone was set, and the Greens didn’t have to wait long to find the opener.

Just five minutes later, Kalif Alhassan took advantage of a turnover in the middle of the pitch and fed a perfect pass to Siaj that split the T2 backline. Siaj held off the defender and calmly slotted the ball past Portland goalkeeper Austin Pack to put OKC ahead.

Energy FC continued to press, but Portland was able to slowly get back into the game and should have probably equalized in the 28th minute. Foster Langsdorf, wide open at the top of the six yard box, fortunately mishit his first-time shot, and the Greens were able to clear the danger.

As the first half wore on, OKC’s press started to subside, and the Greens began to try and create chances on the counterattack. Atuahene wasn’t shy about shooting and nearly doubled the lead from an ambitious thirty-yard effort that just missed the target.

Four minutes after the restart, Drew Beckie was judged to have fouled Langsdorf in the box on an attempted header. Foster stepped up and converted the penalty to level the score.

The play went back and forth until the 62nd minute when Energy FC won a corner kick. Philip Rasmussen delivered a perfect in-swinger, and Ibeagha rose above his marker to head the ball down and past Pack to give the Greens the lead again.

The last half hour of the match saw Portland throw just about everything they could at the OKC defense, but the Greens held strong and did well to keep the ball from getting to Matt VanOekel. The big man was called on late, however, as Langsdorf found some space and steered a header on goal in the 90th minute. The keeper got down quickly and made the save look easy to preserve the lead and give OKC its first away win of the season.

Energy FC head back home to take on Rio Grande Valley FC Toros on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Taft Stadium. Tickets for the match are still available at energyfc.com/june16 or by calling 405-235-KICK(5425).
