Energy FC signed centerback Drew Beckie to a contract, Head Coach Steve Cooke announced today.  The contract is subject to league and federation approval.

Beckie has played the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Armada.  During the 2017 campaign, he appeared in 27 matches, played 2,191 minutes, recorded two assists and one goal.  Prior to his stint with Jacksonville, he played with North Carolina FC and Ottawa Fury FC.  For his career, he’s appeared in 86 matches, played 6,174 minutes, scored one goal and added three assists.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Beckie grew up in the Denver area and attended college at the University of Denver.  He was drafted by the Columbus Crew in the 1st round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft and played a season on the Crew’s reserve squad before he joined Ottawa Fury FC.  During his collegiate career, he attended camp for the U-20 and U-17 Canadian National Team and represented Team Canada in the 2012 Olympic qualifying matches.

“It’s a great thing to be able to add a player with Drew’s experience and ability at this point in the season,” said Cooke.  “Throughout his career, he’s been on very successful teams.  He’s the type of player that is able to play multiple positions and add positives to the team he’s playing with.  I have no doubt his ability and style of play will improve our club.”

Energy FC’s next matches are on the road in the Pacific Northwest.  June 10, they take on Seattle Sounders FC 2 at 3:30 p.m. (ct) followed by a match with Portland Timbers 2 on June 13 at 9 p.m. (ct).  Their next home match is June 16 at 7:30 p.m. against Rio Grande Valley FC.
