A Callum Ross header in the 82nd minute broke a scoreless draw against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and secured a 1-0 win for Energy FC.  More importantly, the goal snapped a variety of streaks The Greens are glad to have in their rear view mirrors.

The first half saw Energy FC outshoot the Switchbacks 5-4 and maintain a 56-44 advantage in possession.  Despite the advantages, the score was knotted 0-0 at the end of the first half.

During the second half, Energy FC appeared to increase their territorial advantage and continued to threaten the net of Switchbacks netminder Steward Ceus.

Finally in the 82nd minute, Energy FC was rewarded for their hard work.  Jonathan Brown served a corner kick inward where Ross was able to get his head on the ball and into the back of the net.

Following the goal, Colorado Springs continued to press forward.  Their best opportunity came in the 90th minute when Marty Mabin worked to play a ball that had bounced toward the cage.  An aggressive play by Energy FC goalkeeper Matt VanOekel kept the ball out.  VanOekel made three saves on the evening for his second clean sheet of the season.

The Ross goal and subsequent win snapped several franchise record streaks for Energy FC.  First, the goal snapped a 601-minute goal-scoring drought, the second longest in USL history.  The 1-0 win snapped an eight-match losing streak in the USL and a five-match home losing streak.

The Greens return to the pitch for their next match on May 26 when they travel the Turner Turnpike to Tulsa for the second Black Gold Derby of the season.  Kickoff from OneOK Park is 7 p.m.  The next home match is June 2 at 7:30 p.m. against Reno 1868 FC.

NOTE:  The Energy FC U23s open their season May 20 against Texas SC at 7 p.m. at the soccer complex on the campus of Oklahoma City University.  Tickets are $5 at the door, while Energy FC Season Seat Members and Oklahoma City University students with a valid I.D. card are admitted free.
