Second half goals from Reno 1868 FC’s Kevin Partida and Lindo Mfeka extended OKC Energy FC’s run without a point to a club record six straight matches – the longest such streak since OKC’s inaugural season in 2014.

The Greens started the match on the front foot and looked dangerous on several occasions. It appeared that the scoring drought might come to an end after a few near misses on corners from Miguel Gonzalez and crosses from Alex Dixon and Kyle Hyland.

Things changed in the 38th minute after an elbow from Gonzalez caught Antoine Hoppenot in the face. The referee wasted no time in reaching for his back pocket and sending off Gonzalez.

After the break, OKC looked the livelier of the two squads and created multiple chances despite being a man down. Good buildup play led to shots from Jaime Siaj, Jon Brown and Coady Andrews but none were able to test Reno goalkeeper Matt Bersano

Reno opened the scoring in the 64th minute after Partida collected a pass from Seth Casiple, drove forward to the top of the OKC box and blasted a shot off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net.

The man advantage proved to be too much as tired legs eventually caught up with Energy FC. Mfeka sealed the victory for the hosts after Hoppenot cut a ball back from the end line. Mfeka took a touch and shot low from the penalty spot past Matt VanOekel, giving the keeper little chance.

Philip Rasmussen made his 2018 debut for OKC after replacing Callum Ross in the 82nd minute. The Danishman suffered a torn ACL during the 2-2 draw at Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 last June.

Jose Angulo also picked up more match fitness after coming on for Brown in the 76th minute.

The clean sheet for Reno marks the third straight match Energy FC has been unable to find the back of the net. It also extends their scoreless streak to 339 minutes. Siaj was the last OKC goal scorer on March 31 away to Fresno FC.

The Greens return home to Taft Stadium to take on the Swope Park Rangers next Saturday, May 5. That match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. CT.
