Earlier today, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced the game structure for the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Energy FC 1st team enters play on May 16 on the road against the winner of the first-round match between NTX Rayados (Texas) and Fort Worth Vaqueros (NPSL).  Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. regardless of location.

Energy FC has participated in each of the last four Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournaments.  The team is 7-4 in those matches and has advanced to the fourth round in each season.

The U23 squad plays in the first round against FC Wichita May 9 at 7 p.m. at Adair-Austin Stadium on the campus of Friends University in Wichita.  The winner of this match advances to play Tulsa Roughnecks FC on May 16 on the campus of the University of Tulsa at 7 p.m.

This is Energy FC U23s second time to play in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.  Last season, the U23s advanced to the second round by defeating the Tulsa Athletic (NPSL) 1-1 (4-2 on PKs) before they fell to the Tulsa Roughnecks (USL) 5-3 in Round 2.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the only high-profile competition in  American team sports where amateur sides have the opportunity to face professionals in meaningful competition.  The tournament is conducted on a single-game, knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.  The competition has crowned a champion each year since 1905 and is named after United States soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
