A brace for both Miguel Gonzalez and Jose Barril along with a goal from a trialist helped Energy FC down the SMU Mustangs in front of a lively crowd at John Crain Field at the University of Oklahoma.

Miguel Gonzalez opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a side volley from eight yards out after a trialist delivered an in-perfect cross from the right-hand side.

In the 33rd minute, Jose Barril collected the ball at the top of the penalty area and shaped a perfectly placed shot into the corner of the net with the inside of his right foot.

Just two minutes later, the Greens were at it again, as some nice buildup play down the left led to Gonzalez scoring from close range.

Just before halftime, Barril took advantage of a costly turnover near the top of the penalty area as he walked the ball into box and calmly slotted it away to make it 4-0 at halftime.

The Mustangs had a couple of close chances during the match. They came closest in the 65th minute, but Bryan Byars was able to quickly get off his line to deny the oncoming striker.

OKC added a fifth goal in the 71st minute thanks to some clever play down the right and a nice finish to the far post from a trialist.

Energy FC’s preseason training continues this week followed by the next preseason match next Saturday against Tulsa University. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. at Tulsa University, is open to the public and is free to attend.
