In his first season with the Energy FC, midfielder Miguel Gonzalez was a key part in the success of the club in 2017.  After arriving in Oklahoma City from USL side Colorado Springs Switchbacks, Gonzalez scored 8 goals in 29 appearances for OKC including a goal many Energy FC fans will always remember.

With the team two weeks into preseason camp and two scrimmages already played, I sat down briefly with Miguel to get his thoughts on his first year in OKC, the upcoming 2018 season, and what’s playing through his headphones on match day:

Lets begin with last year, your first season here with the club, made it to the Western Conference Finals, and had the opportunity to play with your brother [Daniel Gonzalez] as well.  How do you view last season?

Overall I thought we had a great year, successful in my opinion.  We made it to the Conference Finals, which was great for us.  Personally, I thought I did really well but there is always room to improve, that never stops.  Playing with my brother was great.  We grew up playing together and whenever you get a chance to play at the professional level with someone you know, it was special.

Diving a little more into last season, fourth match of the year against Sacramento, a “wonder goal” as some would call it, SportsCenter top play, and a goal seen around the world, describe what that moment has meant to you?

“It was a cool moment for me.  Don’t forget the flip throw by Michael [Harris], he threw it perfectly and I was able to finish.  Still to this day, friends back home talk to me about the goal and it was incredible that it got a lot of attention worldwide.”

Fast forward to 2018, preseason camp is underway, new personnel among the team including a new coaching staff, what do you look forward most about this upcoming season?

I’m just looking forward to getting back to work, learning and working with the new staff, and trying to accomplish our team goal of a championship.”

So far you are having a great playing career and know that the Oklahoma City fans enjoy you here playing in green, but if you weren’t playing soccer, have you ever thought about what you might else be doing?

“Yes I have actually thought about it.  I would still want to be around the sport, maybe coaching or some type of strength or conditioning trainer.  Same goes with after my playing career, I would still want to continue to be around the game, mentoring or coaching in someway”

We are now talking match day, many athletes have a certain genre of music, artist, or playlist playing before a contest, what is your “Go To” music hours before a match?

“I would have to go with a mixture of some Pop or Hip Hop/Rap.  When it comes to artist, I go with anything by Kanye West.  I also tend to enjoy some Latino music as well.”

Miguel and the Energy FC kickoff the season at Taft Stadium on March 17th. Energy FC games are among the most fun you can have in Oklahoma City!  Tickets for the home opener are now available.  Call 235-KICK (5425) to get yours today!
