Jose Angulo scored all three OKC goals in Energy FC’s 3-0 win over LA Galaxy II Sunday at Taft Stadium. Angulo recorded just the second hat trick in OKC history.
Energy FC starting its scoring in the 38th minute, when after a series of passes inside the LA box, Jose Barril was upended by former OKC midfielder Alejandro Covarrubias, resulting in a penalty kick for Energy FC. On the ensuing kick, Angulo booted a line drive past diving Galaxy II keeper Justin Vom Steeg for a 1-0 OKC lead.
In the 67th minute, Barril again started the scoring for OKC when he carried the ball along the goal line and maneuvered around a defender before dishing a cross into the box for Angulo. Angulo then made a sliding shot that pushed the ball past Vom Steeg for a 2-0 OKC lead.
One minute later, Miguel Gonzalez corralled the ball in the LA box and sent a cross to Angulo, who tallied his third goal of the game, giving OKC a 3-0 advantage.
Angulo’s hat trick was the first OKC hat trick since former Energy FC forward Danni König accomplished the feat on Aug. 8, 2015 in Portland, Ore.
OKC goalkeeper C.J. Cochran made two saves, tallying his second clean sheet of the season.
With the win, Energy FC improved to 12-11-7 and remained in eighth place in the USL Western Conference. LA fell to 7-18-5.
