SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jonathan Brown and Jose Angulo each registered a goal and an assist, and Miguel Gonzalez added a goal, as OKC Energy FC recorded its first-ever win in Sacramento, 3-1 over Republic FC, Saturday night at Papa Murphy’s Park.

Behind Brown, Energy FC set the tone early when it scored just 45 seconds into play. OKC defender Sam Fink started the play, sending a long pass up the right side to Brown, who rolled a cross into the Sacramento box, where Angulo finished with a right-footed touch past Republic FC keeper Dominik Jakubek.

In the ninth minute, Angulo returned Brown’s favor to give OKC the early 2-0 advantage. After a Kyle Hyland inbounds throw was corralled by Angulo near midfield, the OKC forward carried the ball up field and dished to Brown at the top of the Sacramento box, where Brown booted his first-ever Energy FC goal past Jakubek.

OKC held its 2-0 lead for more than 50 minutes, until a James Kiffe corner kick found the head of Emrah Klimenta, whose shot caromed past Energy FC goalkeeper C.J. Cochran.

Gonzalez all but sealed the win for OKC in the 83rd minute, scoring off a headed pass by Wojciech Wojcik. The goal was Gonzalez’s second in as many games this season against Sacramento.

Starting in place of injured OKC captain Cody Laurendi, Cochran finished the match with five saves, including three diving stops in the first half to keep Sacramento at bay.

The win moved OKC’s record to 11-11-7, eighth place in the USL Western Conference. Sacramento fell to 12-9-6, remaining in seventh place. The top eight teams in the 15-team conference qualify for the playoffs.

Energy FC’s final three matches of the season are at home. The club next faces LA Galaxy II in a 5 p.m. start, Sunday, Oct. 1 at Taft Stadium, with the final two matches scheduled the following Sundays against the Swope Park Rangers and Seattle Sounders FC 2 respectively.
