Despite the teams combining for 19 shots and 5 shots on goal, OKC Energy FC and San Antonio FC tied, 0-0, Saturday night at Taft Stadium. The draw was the third between the two clubs in three meetings this season.
OKC outshot San Antonio 11-8 on the match, with Energy FC’s back line combination of Richard Dixon, Coady Andrews, Sam Fink and Kyle Hyland keeping the opponents in check for most of the night.
Though San Antonio held a near four-to-one possession rate in the first half, Energy FC closed the match strong, holding a similar advantage in the second half. OKC created a number of chances in the second half, but was unable to push a score past San Antonio keeper Diego Restrepo. Behind Restrepo, San Antonio notched its league-leading 12th clean sheet of the season.
Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi turned away two shots on goal by San Antonio to earn his sixth clean sheet of the year and third in the last four matches.
Wojciech Wojcik made his return for Energy FC, subbing in for the final 11 minutes.
The draw moved OKC to 8-9-6 on the season, while San Antonio went to 11-2-9. San Antonio ranks second in the USL with its nine draws and best in the USL with just a pair of losses.
Energy FC next travels to Irvine, Calif. for a 9:30 p.m. CDT start Friday, Aug. 25, when the club faces Orange County SC at Champions Soccer Stadium at OC Great Park.
The next home game for Energy FC is a 5 p.m. CDT kickoff on Sunday, Sept. 10, when OKC takes on Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at Taft Stadium.
