Energy FC forward Miguel Gonzalez was named USL Player of the Week for Week 18 of the USL season.  Teammate Jose Angulo was named to the USL Team of the Week.

Gonzalez earned the honors after recording two goals and an assist in Energy FC’s 4-3 win over Colorado Springs last Saturday.  He scored on a header from Kyle Hyland in the first half, on a feed from Angulo in the second half and he set up Angulo for his first-half stoppage-time goal.  Gonzalez received 73 percent of the votes from a national panel of independent media.

Angulo made quite a splash in his first match with Energy FC.  He too picked up two goals and an assist in the match against Colorado Springs.  His first-half stoppage-time goal was a left-footed blast from the top of the 18-yard box.  His second was more conventional while his assist set up the second goal by Miguel Gonzalez.

Not to be outdone, defender Kyle Hyland notched two assists in the match.  He is just the second player in Energy FC franchise history to record multiple assists in multiple matches in his career.

The braces by Gonzalez and Angulo mark the first time in franchise history two players have scored two goals in the same game. Gonzalez earning Player of the Week honors is the first such award for an Energy FC player since the 2015 season.

The Greens return to action on the road this weekend against LA Galaxy II (aka Los Dos) at 8:30 p.m. from Carson, California.  The match can be seen live on News9 Plus or streamed via the USL’s YouTube Channel.
