Winning Streak Snapped on Last Second Score

By Tyler Vaughn, 06/03/17, 10:15PM CDT

Energy on point, but last-second stunner trumps solid effort.

Despite creating the better chances, particularly early in the first half, OKC Energy FC fell to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, 1-0, Saturday night at Weidner Field, on a Rony Argueta goal in the final moments of the game.

With second half stoppage time ticking away, Argueta worked a quick one-two at the top of the box, which resulted in a shot that flew past the outstretched arms of OKC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi for the late, deciding score, ending OKC's winning streak at a season-high four games.

OKC started well and were the dominant side throughout the first half with great chances coming from Miguel Gonzalez, Mickey Daly, and Wojciech Wojcik. Outstanding goalkeeping from Switchbacks keeper Moise Pouaty, however, kept things level.

The second half wasn’t quite as one-sided, with Laurendi having to come up big on a couple of occasions to keep the match scoreless. Energy FC had a few good looks at breaking the deadlock in the latter stages of the game but couldn’t quite connect at the right time.

Energy FC next returns home for a 7 p.m. CDT start on Tuesday, June 6, when the club takes on international legend Omar Bravo and Phoenix Rising FC at Taft Stadium.
