U23s advance to 2nd round of U.S. Open Cup

Energy FC U23s downed Tulsa Athletic 4-2 on penalties to advance in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. 

Energy FC U23s opened the scoring in the 44th minute when University of Tulsa forward Matt Puig worked his way behind the defenders and slid one past the goalkeeper from Tulsa Athletic.  The Athletic knotted the score at one with a header in the 80th minute.  The teams played the remainder of regulation tied as well as the extra 30 minutes of play.

During the PKs, all four U23 players scored, including Jacob Vancompernolle, Caio Ruiz, Noah Keats and Matthew Puig.  Energy FC U23 goalkeeper Eric Dick stopped the first Tulsa shooter to lead the way to the win.

By way of this win, the U23s advance to the 2nd round to take on the Tulsa Roughnecks FC next Wednesday in Tulsa at the University of Tulsa soccer complex at 7:30 p.m.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest team competition in the U.S.  Soccer teams from across the country and across leagues play for the U.S. Open Cup.  The defending champion is FC Dallas.
