EDINBURG, Texas — Joseph Holland scored a goal and added an assist to lead Rio Grande Valley FC Toros to a 3-0 win over OKC Energy FC Saturday night at H-E-B Park.
In the 8th minute, Holland sent a pass near midfield to Eric Bird behind the OKC defense, from where Bird streaked up field and rolled a shot around Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi for what would be the game’s deciding goal.
Thirty minutes later, Holland added a second goal for the Toros, when he corralled a loose ball off the head of OKC’s Coy Craft deep in the Energy box and booted a shot past a diving Laurendi.
Rio Grande Valley extended its lead to 3-0 in the 83rd minute, when Jose Escalante won a header from OKC’s Anthony Wallace near the Energy FC defensive third and raced alone toward the Energy FC net before lining a shot past Laurendi into the lower-left corner.
Despite the three RGV goals, Laurendi made a season-high five saves for Energy FC.
With the loss, OKC fell to 1-3-1 on the season, while the Toros improved to 3-3-0.
The next match for Energy FC is a 9:30 p.m. CDT start on Saturday, May 13, when the club travels to Arizona to face Phoenix Rising FC.
