Teammates from UNC-Wilmington added to U23 roster

The Energy FCU23s added forward Julio Moncada and centerback Mark Lindstrom to the roster, head coach Chris Spendlove and Technical Director Scott Rezendes announced today. 

Moncada had a breakout season with the University of North Carolina – Wilmington in 2016.  He led the team in scoring with eight goals and 19 points which was good for fifth in the Colonial Athletic Conference.  During the 2016 season, he was named CAA Player of the Week twice, Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week twice and #NCAASoccer Player of the Week once.  Prior to playing at UNCW, the native of Honduras appeared for his country in the U17 FIFA World Cup and CONCACAF qualifiers.

Lindstrom, a teammate of Moncada at UNCW is a 6-3, 200-pounder from Sweden.  As a freshman, he started all 17 games for the Seahawks, was named to the CAA All Rookie Team and earned First Team All NCCSIA recognition.  Prior to attending UNCW, he played with the U19 and U21 teams at Gefle IF where he helped guide the team to three consecutive state championships.

Moncada and Lindstrom join midfielders Josh Taylor, Noah Keats, Eric Leonard and Luka Prpa; forwards Garrett McLaughlin, Ben Conway, Luc Fatton, Sven Koenig and Matthew Puig; defenders R.J. Roberts Hugo Rhoads and goalkeepers Austen Parker, Eric Dick, Ryan Krutz and Cooper Clark as players currently on the U23 roster for the 2017 season.

The U23s open their season in the 1st round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 10 on the road against the Tulsa Athletic at 7 p.m.
