Bruna nets a pair for Ottawa in 2-1 OKC loss.

BRADENTON, Fla. — Despite Philip Rasmussen netting his first goal as a member of Energy FC, OKC suffered its first loss of the 2017 preseason, 2-1 at the hands of Ottawa Fury FC Thursday night at IMG Academy.

The match, which featured three 30-minute periods instead of the traditional 45-minute halves, was decided on a penalty kick in the 67th minute by Ottawa’s Gerardo Bruna, after Bruna was hauled down from behind in the OKC box.

Bruna tallied both goals for Ottawa, including a strike in the 34th minute after intercepting a ball at the edge of the OKC box and firing a low liner past OKC keeper Cody Laurendi for a 1-0 Fury FC lead.

Three minutes later, OKC knotted the match when Rasmussen took a feed from Miguel Gonzalez on the right side of the Ottawa box and sent a shot that snuck past Ottawa keeper Callum Irving. The goal was the seventh scored in the preseason by a player in his first season with Energy FC.

OKC’s preseason schedule continues Tuesday, Feb. 28, when the club concludes its three-game series at IMG Academy in a 10:30 a.m. CST start against Orlando City B.
