Tyler Pasher and Mark Anthony Gonzalez each scored a goal and tallied an assist for the Swope Park Rangers, who shut out OKC Energy FC, 3-0, Sunday night at Taft Stadium. The loss extended Energy FC’s winless streak to four games.
Swope Park netted all three of its goals in the first half, starting with a 16-yard strike from Dane Kelly. In the 16th minute of play, Gonzalez sent a pass up field from near midfield that found Kelly alone inside the OKC box. Kelly eluded a pair of OKC defenders and fired a line-drive shot past Energy FC goal keeper Cody Laurendi for an early 1-0 Swope Park lead.
A little more than eight minutes later, Gonzalez netted his goal when Pasher booted a cross from the left corner that Gonzalez chipped from just inside the OKC six past a diving Laurendi.
In the 35th minute, Pasher notched his goal when former Energy FC midfielder Christian Duke sent a ball through center that Pasher slipped past Laurendi.
The 3-0 difference marked Energy FC’s second-worst loss of the season, with the worst being a 4-0 loss in Portland just two weeks prior. OKC has allowed nine goals in its last three games, after allowing a total of 17 in the previous 25.
With the win, Swope Park clinched its first-ever USL Playoffs berth in the franchise’s first season.
Energy FC next travels to Vancouver, B.C. for the makeup of a match originally scheduled for April 17, but postponed due to weather. OKC will face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in a 9 p.m. CDT start Wednesday, Sept. 21, at McLeod Athletic Park.
OKC’s final regular season home match is a 6 p.m. CDT start against Saint Louis FC Saturday, Sept. 24, at Taft Stadium.
