Soccer is alive and well in downtown Oklahoma City with Energy FC. This weekend, fans can see a conference final match and the Black Gold Derby for the price of one, all in the confines of historic Taft Stadium.
Saturday at 3 p.m., Energy FC U23 plays the Midland/Odessa Sockers FC in the PDL Southern Conference championship match. Midland/Odessa downed The Villages SC 2-1 in the first semifinal match. Energy FC U23 punched their ticket to the conference final match with a 2-1 win over the South Florida Surf. This marks the fourth meeting between the two clubs this season. Energy FC won two of the three matches.
Following the U23 match, is the Black Gold Derby (pronounced “Darby”), when Energy FC takes on Tulsa Roughnecks FC at 7:30 p.m. This is the second Black Gold Derby match of the season, the first in Oklahoma City. Energy FC won the first Black Gold Derby match 2-0 in Tulsa on June 4.
As part of this weekend’s Celebration of Soccer, one ticket provides entry to both matches at Taft Stadium on Saturday. A limited number of tickets start at $10 and provide admission to the Black Gold Derby as well as the PDL Southern Conference Championship match. Energy season ticket holders and fans who have pre-purchased tickets for the Black Gold Derby can bring their tickets for admission to any or all of the PDL games.
Energy FC is in midst of a six-game unbeaten streak. Their 7-2-7 mark is good for 28 points and fifth place in the Western Conference of the USL. Energy FC is just four points out of first place and has played two fewer games than the first-place Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.
One ticket provides entry to the PDL Southern Conference championship match at Taft Stadium Saturday. The championship match on Saturday begins at 3 p.m., with gates opening at 2 p.m.
