SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — OKC Energy FC and Saint Louis FC played to a 0-0 draw in a preseason friendly Sunday at Greenwood Field in the Lake Country soccer complex.
The scoreless draw marked more than 180 minutes of scoreless play between the two clubs dating back to last year’s 0-0 result on July 28 in St. Louis.
Energy FC goal keeper Cody Laurendi registered his second clean sheet of the preseason, turning away four Saint Louis shots in the tie.
OKC had two key scoring chances on consecutive possessions in the Saint Louis zone in the second half. In the 59th minute, Energy FC captain Michael Thomas sent a long feed into the Saint Louis box, where Sebastian Dalgaard corralled the ball and fired a shot that sailed just over the crossbar.
Moments later, Energy FC’s Casey Townsend created a chance in the Saint Louis box, maneuvering around a pair of defenders and firing a shot on goal that Saint Louis keeper Ryan Thompson made a diving save on.
The draw moved OKC’s 2016 preseason record to 2-3-1, with all three losses coming against MLS opponents.
Energy FC will play one final preseason match at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, against the University of Nebraska-Omaha at Norman North High School in Norman, OK.
OKC hosts rival Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC the following Saturday, March 26, at Taft Stadium, in its USL regular season opener.
