Coady Andrews and Kyle Hyland scored their first goals of 2016 and Danni König added his second goal of the season as OKC Energy FC won its second straight match, 3-1 over Real Monarchs SLC Tuesday night at Taft Stadium. OKC is now unbeaten in seven straight matches.
Knotted at a goal apiece In the 37th minute, Andrews headed a Sebastian Dalgaard corner kick into the top-right corner of SLC net, past diving Monarchs goalkeeper Lalo Fernandez for the game’s deciding goal. The score was the second of Andrews’s Energy FC career and first since the 2015 Western Conference Finals on Oct. 11, 2015.
Real Monarchs took an early lead, with forward Devon Sandoval taking a feed from Ricado Velazco and rolling a shot past outstretched OKC keeper Cody Laurendi in the 23rd minute.
A little more than five minute later, OKC tied the game when König caught possession of a Michael Harris inbound throw and sprinted past SLC defenders, into the Monarchs box and powered a shot to the upper-right corner of the net.
In the 88th minute, a severe weather warning resulted in a 60-minute delay. Following the break, Energy FC increased its lead to 3-1 when Kyle Hyland netted the first goal of his OKC career in second half stoppage time.
Energy FC next faces the North American Soccer League’s Rayo OKC in round three of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Wednesday, June 1.
Energy FC’s USL action resumes June 4, when OKC travels to Tulsa and faces Roughnecks FC in a 7:30 p.m. start at ONEOK Field.
OKC’s next home match is June 25, when the club welcomes current USL Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.
