OKC for Soccer | OKC es Fútbol was joined by City of Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt and other prominent local community leaders on Monday for a unique event to celebrate the future MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium: a flag-raising to mark the location of venue.
In the days and months ahead, the giant flagpole will carry various emblems, starting with rotating “OKC for Soccer” and “OKC es Fútbol” flags, until the stadium is completed in spring 2027. The flagpole will be utilized by OKC for Soccer for additional visual activations relevant to the club and the community.
"We're here because today marks the new beginning of professional soccer in Oklahoma City," OKC for Soccer President Court Jeske said. "This represents the start of the re-imagination of professional soccer in our city. And we're going to do it through this symbolic flag raising, with the groundbreaking to come later this year."
Located on the nine-acre property donated to the city by multi-strategy investment firm and owner of OKC professional soccer club, Echo, the flagpole and flags will be visible to drivers along I-40 and raise awareness of the stadium’s site east of the OKC Convention Center and south of Bricktown. The goal of this initiative is to build continued excitement for the future stadium and the growth of sports & entertainment in downtown OKC.
"It's an exciting moment in Oklahoma City's history," Mayor Holt said during his remarks at the flag-raising event. "It's a moment we're going to be celebrating for the next couple of years and beyond, as we will return to this spot for a groundbreaking [and,] in a couple of years, for a cutting. And we will return here many, many times over in the years ahead to cheer on our soccer teams."
In addition to Mayor Holt, attendees at the flag-raising event included Echo CEO Christian Kanady, MAPS 4 Citizens Advisory Board Chair Teresa Rose, and LCDA CEO Salvador Ontiveros.
The $71 million multipurpose stadium will include a United States Soccer Federation-approved pitch, seating for approximately 12,300 guests, locker rooms, and suites. Construction is expected to begin this fall, and the stadium will ultimately open in the spring of 2027. As the majority owner of OKC’s professional soccer club, Echo is driving the OKC for Soccer | OKC es Fútbol movement and will operate the stadium, which will be the future home to both women’s and men’s teams.
Over time, Echo also plans to develop the surrounding area into a sports-centered entertainment district in partnership with Robinson Park. When the area develops, visitors will be able to walk from restaurants, retail stores, and residences to attend a wide variety of events and activities in the new entertainment district.
