With the preseason matches coming thick and fast leading up to the start of the season, Head Coach John Pascarella opted to give a few guys a rest today and named a starting XI that included five trialists.
The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma brought an experienced team that included several former Drover players as well as former Energy FC first team and U-23 alums Kal Okot and Llewellyn Evans.
After going behind early, Energy FC responded to control the game for the remainder of the first half, with Tucker Stephenson expertly finishing from the top of the box after birthday boy Jon Brown picked him out from the end line.
A few changes in the second half resulted in Aidan Daniels and Villyan Bijev both getting minutes and both getting on the scoresheet.
After a turnover in midfield, Daniels picked up the ball, drove forward, and unleashed a shot that smacked off the inside of the post and in the back of the net to give the Greens the lead.
Bijev sealed the victory after some combination play between Brown and a trialist put Bijev through on goal, who then calmly slotted past the USAO goalkeeper.
The win wraps up preseason play for Energy FC, with the first match of the regular season next Saturday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Taft Stadium against FC Tulsa. Tickets are still available at energyfc.com/tickets.
