OKLAHOMA CITY – After a one-year delay, Energy FC and the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League are bringing their youth soccer league back to 5th and 6th grade students of Oklahoma City Public Schools, while the YMCA’s Energy Soccer League will be offered to 3rd and 4th grade students.

Beginning March 27, 13 middle schools and 12 elementary schools from across OKCPS will participate in a six-week competition, culminating in the girls and boys championship games at Taft Stadium, home of Energy FC, in May.

Since 2017, Energy FC and PAL have worked together to provide free, organized youth soccer to OKCPS students with each school also receiving unique jerseys that will feature Energy FC branding.

“Our partnership with Energy FC is instrumental in the delivery of our sports programs,” said Brittany Ward, OKCPAL Athletic Director. “Our combined efforts allow PAL to reach and provide a top-tier knowledge base to more volunteer coaches and ultimately more student-athletes. We are happy to be in this together!”

The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, a longtime partner of Energy FC, has established the YMCA Energy Soccer League, which will also provide organized youth soccer at no cost to OKCPS elementary students. The teams will also receive Energy FC-branded jerseys as well as equipment from Cleats for Kids.

“The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City is happy to continue partnering with Energy FC to promote soccer in our community,” said Chris Berry, District Executive Director with the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City. “For several years, the YMCA has provided children the opportunity to see soccer at the highest level right here at home by working with Energy FC through YMCA Night with Energy FC, Summer Camps, Clinics, and special events. The YMCA Oklahoma City Public Schools Elementary School Sports League launches this month and will serve nearly 400 children from 12 OKC Public Schools. We are grateful that OKC Energy will be providing coaching clinics and facility opportunities to these teams.”

All involved organizations are kicking the season off with a free coaching clinic Wednesday, March 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Wendell Whisenhunt Sports Complex located at 3200 S Independence Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73119. Former Energy FC players, Michael Thomas and Coady Andrews, now with Soccer Allies, will be conducting coaching education sessions for the volunteer coaches along with Energy FC Head Coach John Pascarella and Director of Special Projects Jason Hawkins.

“We have been proud partners of OKCPS and the PAL program for many years,” said Hawkins. “It is so exciting to see them back between the lines this Spring and to see even more expanded opportunities for the kids with the YMCA Energy Soccer League coming on board for the 3rd and 4th graders. These programs are setting the path for these youths, our future.”
