Jaime Chavez’s goal in the 40th minute ended the scoring drought for Energy FC and helped earn a draw against Austin Bold FC despite going down to 10 men Sunday night at Taft Stadium.

The visitors took the lead in the 14th minute when a cross from right wing took a deflection on the way into the box and fell kindly for Billy Forbes, who was able to get off a low drive that beat CJ Cochran to the lower right corner.

After the early concession, the Greens took it to Austin for the remainder of the half, going close on several occasions through Jose Hernandez, Arun Basuljevic and Jaime Chavez.

Chavez eventually made the breakthrough in the 40th minute.

Zach Ellis-Hayden cut back onto his left foot and delivered an inch-perfect cross from the right wing to the back post that found Chavez for the diving header. The goal put an end to a five-game scoreless streak.

OKC’s momentum was halted five minutes after the second-half restart, when Rafael Garcia was given a second yellow card, reducing the Greens to just 10 men for the remainder of the match.

Despite playing down a man, the Greens battled to hang onto the draw, and nearly grabbed a late goal to win the match.

A short corner kick from Charlie Ward found Arun Basuljevic just inside the corner of the penalty area. Basuljevic was able to get off a shot, but the low effort couldn’t beat Diego Restrepo, nor could Atiba Harris get a foot on the ball to redirect it past the ATX goalkeeper.

Energy FC is now on seven points and remain in fourth place in Group D.

The Greens begin a three-match road trip next Saturday, September 5 at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT, and as always, the match will be streamed live on ESPN+. The last home match of the season is Sunday, September 27 at 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
