Energy FC has purchased forward Frank Lopez from the LA Galaxy organization, pending league and federation approval, Head Coach John Pascarella announced today. The terms of the deal will remain undisclosed.

“He’s a known commodity, and he’s a proven goal scorer in this league,” said Pascarella. “He’s feisty, persistent and can be very demanding of his teammates, but those are great qualities in my opinion.”

Lopez, a 24-year-old from Cienfuegos, Cuba, scored eight goals in 14 appearances while on loan at San Antonio FC in the second half of 2019—tied for most on the team. After signing for LA Galaxy II in 2018, the striker found the back of the net 19 times in 42 appearances. Prior to the move to the USL Championship, Lopez played for his hometown academy FC Cienfuegos before moving to Miami Soccer Academy in 2015.

In addition to his club experience, Lopez has represented the Cuban national team at the U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels.

Lopez becomes the 18th player under contract for the 2020 season on a roster that includes:

Goalkeepers (3): CJ Cochran, Kyle Ihn, Cody Laurendi

Defenders (5): Joe Amico, Zachary Ellis-Hayden, Atiba Harris, Kyle Hyland, Nicolas Taravel

Midfielders (6): Arun Basuljevic, Jonathan Brown, Brad Dunwell, Rafael Garcia, Jose Hernandez, Kodai Iida

Forwards (4): Cordell Cato, Jaime Chavez, Omar Gordon, Frank Lopez
