Energy FC recorded 10 shots in the first half, but near misses ultimately costed the Greens as RGV scored two, second-half goals to take all three points Sunday night at Taft Stadium.

The Greens were the dominate side through the opening 45 minutes and nearly took the lead in the sixth minute. Omar Gordon knocked a header down in the box for Christian Eissele, who beat two defenders before shooting. The shot looked destined for the back of the net, but RGV defender Kyle Adams was able to block it.

In the 18th minute, Jon Brown’s cross from the left wing found Cordell Cato streaking through the box, but his volley from the six yards out just missed wide at the near post.

Eissele came close again in the 22nd minute after controlling a shot that was headed wide of the goal, but he dragged his shot just wide of the far post.

One minute later, Cato put Deshorn Brown through on goal, but his right-footed stab was parried away by RGV goalkeeper Benjamin Willis.

In the 32nd minute, Eissele attempted a volley from just outside the penalty area that dipped a little too late and skimmed the top of the net.

It looked like the Greens would finally make the breakthrough in first-half stoppage time when Callum Ross’ effort from 25 yards beat Willis but not the post as the screamer clanged away to safety.

OKC had the first good chance of the second half in the 66th minute. Deshorn Brown squared for Cato in the middle of the penalty area, but his side-footed effort was saved by the toe of Willis.

The visitors took the lead in the 70th minute. RGV won a corner kick following a fine save from Cody Laurendi and capitalized through Conor Donovan, who rose highest to nod the ball down and into the side netting.

The Toros doubled their lead in the 78th minute after Atiba Harris fouled Juan Carlos Obregon in the box. Carlos Small stepped up and fired his shot into the lower left corner.

Energy FC will finish up the regular season on the road against Phoenix Rising FC next Friday, October 18 at 9:30 p.m. CDT.
