Week 26 Recap

Energy FC (9-8-10, 6th, 37 points) return home after a gritty 2-2 draw on the road against Real Monarchs SLC. Despite trailing on two occasions, goals from Rafael Garcia and Deshorn Brown earned a hard-fought point to extend OKC’s unbeaten run to three matches and keep the Greens among the playoff spots.

Week 27 Preview

Next up is New Mexico United’s (8-8-10, 12th, 34 points) first-ever visit to Taft Stadium. OKC and New Mexico battled to a 1-1 draw at Isotopes Park back on June 5. At the time, New Mexico United were top of the Western Conference. That night, Devon Sandoval gave the hosts the lead before a goal from Deshorn Brown earned a point for Energy FC.

New Mexico United have hit a rough patch since the meeting on June 5, losing seven, drawing three and winning two matches.

New Mexico’s Kevaughn Frater is still in the running for the USL Championship Golden Boot with 14 goals on the season – tied for third in the league. Santi Moar isn’t too far behind with 10. Chris Wehan has chipped in with seven goals and a team-leading five assists. Cody Mizell is second in the league in saves with 72.

The Greens have had a resurgence of late, climbing to 6th in the table with three wins and two draws in their last six fixtures.

Deshorn Brown still leads OKC with 11 goals, Omar Gordon has the most assists with seven, and Cody Laurendi has extended his USL saves lead to 87.

OKC will be without Josh Garcia (Dominican Republic), Alvin Jones (Trinidad and Tobago) and Je-Vaughn Watson (Jamaica), as the trio have been called up for national team duty in the Concacaf Nations League.

Table Talk

Two wins and a draw in the last three outings have the Greens in sixth place in the Western Conference standings – level on points with fifth place SLC but trailing due to Real Monarchs having more wins, the first tiebreaker.

The Western Conference continues to be incredibly congested with only seven points separating 4th place Austin Bold FC from 14th place Las Vegas Lights FC. Sunday’s opponent, New Mexico, trails OKC by just three points with a game in hand.

Sunday’s match kicks off from Taft Stadium at 6 p.m. CDT, and tickets are still available at energyfc.com/september or by calling 235-KICK.
