Energy FC put up another four-goal performance to down Austin Bold FC and move up the Western Conference standings.

An own goal put the Greens ahead in the 24th minute. Andre Lima couldn’t handle Rafael Garcia’s curling, inswinging free kick from near the left touchline and the ball skipped off his head and into the back of the net.

Just three minutes later, another Garcia free kick led to another goal, but this time it was direct and of the highest quality. With the dead ball positioned well wide of the left post, 25 yards from goal, Garcia caught Austin goalkeeper Juan Ramirez anticipating a cross and curled an inch-perfect free kick to the upper left corner of the goal.

The Greens added a third in the 31st minute. Je-Vaughn Watson’s cross into the box from the right wing was deflected towards the penalty spot, and Christian Eissele pounced on the loose ball and stabbed it past Ramirez.

Deshorn Brown got in among the goals in the 42nd minute. Atiba Harris carried the ball from his own defensive third all the way to the attacking third and split the defense with a through ball to find Brown. Brown then chipped the onrushing Ramirez to give the Greens a four-goal lead at the break.

Cody Laurendi came up big to deny Lima from the penalty spot in the 60th minute, after Kyle Hyland was judged to have fouled Kris Tyrpak in the penalty area.

Austin got on the scoresheet in the 77th minute when Sean McFarlane found Tyrpak with a cross at the back post that he was able to poke past Laurendi.

Abdi Faris cut the lead in half in the 88th minute with a deflected shot from 25 yards, but it was too little too late, as OKC held on to pick up all three points at home.

Energy FC are on the road next Friday, August 30 to take on Real Monarchs SLC at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah.
