Switchbacks FC defeated Energy FC 1-0 at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs Saturday night. Ismaila Jome’s second-half goal proved to be the difference, as OKC was unable to get on the scoresheet despite creating several great chances.

OKC nearly found the breakthrough in the 12th minute when Jon Brown’s cross into the box from the left wing forced Switchbacks goalkeeper Andre Rawls to intervene and deny Omar Gordon. The follow-up header for Deshorn Brown was destined for the back of the net but Adbul Rwatubyaye cleared it off the line for a corner.

Jome came inches away from catching Cody Laurendi off his line in the 32nd minute, but his thirty-yard effort crashed against the crossbar.

In the 37th minute, Atiba Harris denied Austin Dewing when the forward received the ball between the center backs and was bearing down on goal. However, the defender’s slide tackle in the box was perfectly timed to deny the chance.

Deshorn Brown came incredibly close to giving OKC a halftime lead when Je-Vaughn Watson’s long ball made its way to Brown via a deflection. Brown’s first-time volley off the high, bouncing ball was too close to Rawls, who was able to make the save.

Jome put the hosts ahead in the 51st minute. After controlling the ball at the top corner of the penalty area, Jome cut inside onto his right foot and beat Laurendi with a low drive to the far post.

The Greens nearly responded immediately and did find the back of the net, although Deshorn Brown was ruled offside after a deflection on Alvin Jones’ shot from distance found its way to Brown.

Deshorn Brown had another great opportunity in the 65th minute after being played through clear on goal, but his powerful, right-footed effort was right at Rawls.

In the 80th minute, Laurendi, as he’s done so often this season, came off his line to deny Dewing from doubling the lead.

The Greens return to action next Saturday, July 27 away to the Tacoma Defiance. Kickoff for that one is set for 9:00 p.m. CDT.
