Week 20 Part 1 Recap

Energy FC (10th, 6-6-8, 26 points) put on a great display for the first hour of the match against Reno 1868 FC to go ahead with goals from Jon Brown and Omar Gordon, but an 11-minute spell saw the visitors overturn the two-goal deficit and take all three points at Taft Stadium. No point in dwelling on that one. Three big points are on the line in Colorado Springs Saturday night.

Week 20 Part 2 Preview

The Greens head west for a showdown with old Western Conference rival Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (17th, 5-12-2, 17 points). Colorado Springs is struggling at the moment with one win and four losses in their last five outings. They are, however, coming off a big win at home over Tulsa Roughnecks FC on July 13. While they’ve given up quite a few goals this season, including 12 in that five-match span, it’s the attack that’s really struggled. Switchbacks FC have only found the back of the net 17 times – fourth worst in the league.

This will be the second meeting between the sides with the Greens coming out on top at Taft Stadium on May 25. That night, Alexy Bosetti and Gordon linked up in style to help the Greens on the way to a 1-0 win.

The teams have met 12 times in all competitions since 2015 with OKC winning five, COS winning four and the sides drawing three times. Two of those wins for Energy FC include the famous 2015 Western Conference semifinal penalty shootout at Taft Stadium and the 2017 U.S. Open Cup Third Round at Weidner Field.

OKC will be without Rafael Garcia Saturday night. The midfielder picked up his eighth yellow card of the season against Reno and will sit out one match for accumulation.

Deshorn Brown still leads the way with nine goals for Energy FC, while Gordon has the most assists with six and has added five goals. Cody Laurendi just keeps extending his USL Championship saves lead. He’s now on 67 for the season.

With over half the season in the books, it’s time for OKC to make a move up the table and solidify a playoff spot. The time couldn’t be better with the next three fixtures coming against the bottom three teams in the Western Conference standings: tomorrow against Colorado Springs, July 27 against the Tacoma Defiance and August 3 against Tulsa Roughnecks FC.

Saturday’s match kicks off from Weidner Field at 7:00 CDT. The official, all-ages watch party location is Guytues on Uptown 23rd. As always, there will be food and drink specials as well as plenty of giveaways.
