Week 19 Recap

There was no match in week 19 for Energy FC (10th, 6-5-8, 26 points). After drawing 1-1 with El Paso Locomotive FC on July 6 at Taft Stadium, the Greens had 10 days off to rest and prepare for a busy week 20. Despite the draw with El Paso being a frustrating result,  the Western Conference Standings are incredibly tight and with a win, OKC could move all the way up to fourth at the end of Wednesday night.

Week 20 Preview Part 1

Up first this week is a visit from Reno 1868 FC (3rd, 9-4-5, 32 points). Reno are in fine form as of late, having won four of their last five. They also have the third-most goals in the league with 38.

Fortunately for OKC, Reno’s co-leading goalscorer, Brian Brown, recently signed with Albanian club FK Partizani Tirana. Brown also leads the team with five assists. However, 1868 FC have no shortage of attacking weapons with the likes of Corey Hertzog (8), Raul Mendiola (4), Sam Gleadle (4) chipping in with plenty of goals. Hertzog and Casiple both have four assists on the year as well.

This will be the second meeting between the sides this season after the thrilling, 3-3 draw at Greater Nevada Field on March 30. That night, OKC trailed 3-0 before goals from Alexy Bosetti, Christian Eissele and Omar Gordon in the 72nd, 92nd and 94th minutes, respectively, salvaged a valuable point on the road. In six meetings all-time, Energy FC have won twice, including 1-0 in the 2017 Western Conference quarterfinal, Reno 1868 FC have won three times, and there has been one draw.

Deshorn Brown still leads the way with nine goals for Energy FC, while Omar Gordon has the most assists with six. Cody Laurendi keeps extending his USL Championship saves lead with 62.

Wednesday’s match kicks off from Taft Stadium at 8:00 CDT. Tickets can be found at energyfc.com/july or by calling 235-KICK.
