Energy FC’s six-match unbeaten run came to an end Saturday night, as Phoenix Rising FC won 4-1 to remain in first place in the Western Conference.

Phoenix took the lead in the 15th minute via an own goal. Atiba Harris got a foot to Solomon Asante’s cross that was intended for Adam Jahn and slid it past a stranded Cody Laurendi.

There was nothing fortunate about Rising FC’s second goal. Amadou Dia’s cross from the left wing found Asante in stride, and his first-time shot at the back post beat Laurendi.

The Greens got back in the game in the 29th minute, after Joseph Farrell’s arm blocked Deshorn Brown’s shot that looked like it was headed for the back of the net. Farrell was sent off for his second yellow card, OKC was awarded a penalty, and Garcia buried his shot into the lower left corner in the 31st minute.

Just four minutes later, Omar Gordon chased down a bouncing ball headed softly back to Lubin, but the keeper was quick off his line to close down the angle and make the stop.

Jon Bakero restored the visitors’ two-goal lead in the 54th minute with a 25-yard free kick that bent around the wall and beat Laurendi low at his near post.

Alexy Bosetti could have cut the deficit to one in the 64th minute. Kyle Hyland delivered a spectacular, curling cross from the left wing to pick out Bosetti, but the Frechman was unable to direct his header on frame.

The Greens had another golden opportunity to cut the lead just three minutes later when Bosetti found Christian Eissele with a ball over the top, but again, the header wasn’t on target.

Hyland, with another fantastic cross, found Deshorn Brown open in the box in the 73rd minute, but his powerful header was straight at Lubin.

With Energy FC pushing everyone forward, Phoenix made it four in the 79th minute. Jahn played in Asante across the top of the box who volleyed into the side netting to put the match out of reach.

The Greens will hit the road to take on Las Vegas Lights FC at Cashman Field next Saturday at 9:30 CDT. Energy FC return home Saturday, July 6 to face El Paso Locomotive FC at 8:00 p.m CDT. Tickets are available by calling 235-KICK or by visiting energyfc.com/july.
