Williams joined the Rapids in 2016 and made 38 appearances and logged 2,865 minutes over two seasons in Major League Soccer. The 27-year-old has also earned 17 caps for Trinidad & Tobago in his career, most recently appearing in two 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Panama and Mexico.  Previously, he appeared in three games for the Soca Warriors in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, including the country’s quarterfinal loss to Panama.

Prior to joining the Rapids, the native of Port of Spain appeared in 20 matches over two seasons with Guatemalan side Antigua GFC, where he recorded one goal in 1,524 minutes.

MONARCH ADD HEARD, WILLIAMS: Real Monarchs SLC announced the signing of midfielder Josh Heard and defender Rhys Williams ahead of the 2018 season. Heard’s signing is pending the approval of his P-1 visa, while both signings are pending league and federation approval.

“Both players came in on trial at the beginning of preseason and both showed well and got better every day,” said Monarchs Assistant General Manager Dan Egner. “We’re excited to bring both of these guys in to strengthen an already impressive group. Both possess qualities that we like and we think both players will come in and contribute to the group immediately.”

Heard spent the past two seasons in the USL with Bethlehem Steel FC, where he made 38 appearances and scored two goals and one assist. A former standout at the University of Washington, Heard was originally selected by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft before joining Steel FC.

Williams competed last season for the New York Cosmos B, where he tallied three goals and registered four assists. Prior to his time with the Cosmos, Williams made 49 appearances collegiately for Columbia University and notched seven goals and five assists.
