Can Jose Angulo improve on 2017 season in 2018?

Many of us in life have those moments that align perfectly for everyone.  Jose Angulo could use his play in OKC as one of those examples.  It was late June.  The former USL Golden Boot winner signed with Saint Louis FC was looking to get himself back on track.  He’d scored four goals on the season…and then he got the news.  He’d been traded to Oklahoma City for Daniel Jackson.

From an Energy FC perspective, it was one of the best things that could have happened.  His first match with Energy FC was July 14, a 1-1 draw with San Antonio FC.  Some argue that was the turning point of the Energy FC season.  Not necessarily Angulo’s 22 minutes of play, but the stoppage time goal by Miguel Gonzalez.

That draw, plus the arrival of Angulo, served as the catalyst for the team.  After that date, Energy FC played 18 games (including playoffs) and posted a 11-4-3 record.  Angulo would go on to score 11 goals for Energy FC in just 16 games.

His most torrid stretch for the club were the last four matches of the season.

Energy FC won each of the four matches and outscored their opponents 13-3.  Angulo certainly did his part.  During those games, Angulo scored seven goals and assisted on four others.  Yes, your math is correct.  He had a part in 11 of the last 13 goals scored by Energy FC during the 2017 regular season.  During the three matches in October, he had a part in nine of the 10 goals scored by the team.  For his efforts, Angulo was named USL Player of the Month.

Energy FC fans can hope that Angulo keeps his scoring touch for the 2018 season as well!
