One of the most highly touted signings during the 2017 offseason was that of midfielder Jose Barril.  Originally from Spain, Barril transferred to North America in 2014 to play with the Harrisburg City Islanders.

His credentials are impressive.  From the age of 7 until his transfer to Harrisburg in 2014, he was a member of the Real Madrid Academy.  Once with Harrisburg, he immediately became a contributor and scored 11 goals and 15 assists in 77 matches over a three season span.  His best season was 2016 when he led the City Islanders in points with 19 and assists with 7.  Those stats earned him 2nd Team All USL honors.

His 2017 Energy FC campaign got off to a rocky start. Red cards in his first two matches played led to time not on the pitch.  After those early-season speed bumps, Barril became one of the most consistent players for Energy FC.  He was second on the team in passes attempted with 1,238 and third on the team in passing accuracy at 84.5%.  He also scored one of the top goals of the season for Energy FC.
