Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi is out for the remainder of the season, Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen announced today.

Laurendi suffered a knee injury in a first-half collision with defender Coady Andrews. Laurendi is slated to undergo surgery in the near future and will be sidelined for a minimum of six months.

“Losing Laurendi on a play like that was a blow for the team,” said Nielsen.  “Although not having Laurendi is disappointing, it’s not the end of our season.  C.J. Cochran stepped in when Laurendi was recalled by the Puerto Rican National Team and will be our keeper for the remainder of the season.  I trust him as do the players on the team.”

In his second season with Energy FC, Laurendi is the team leader in every major goalkeeping category including wins (24) and shutouts (19).  This season, he has a 9-11-6 mark and seven shutouts.

The injury to Andrews is less severe, but did keep him out of the team’s 3-1 win over Sacramento on September 23.  His status for this weekend’s match is unknown.

Andrews is among the team leaders in minutes played and has one goal on the season.
