Jose Barril and Miguel Gonzalez each scored a goal for Energy FC as OKC downed rival Tulsa Roughnecks FC, 2-0, Sunday at Taft Stadium.
OKC got out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring its third-fastest goal in franchise history. At the 4:40 mark, midfielder Juan Pablo Guzman sent a long up-field pass to Miguel Gonzalez, who corralled the ball and booted a shot past Tulsa keeper Fabian Cerda for his fifth goal of the season.
Nearly eight minutes later, Energy FC increased its lead when Kyle Hyland sent a pass to Jose Barril near midfield, and Barril streaked more than 40 yards, past several Tulsa defenders, and buried a left-footed shot from just inside the Roughnecks box, past a diving Cerda.
Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi tallied his eighth clean sheet of the season, turning away three Tulsa shots on goal.
With the win, Energy FC improved to 10-10-7 and an eight-place rank in the USL Western Conference. Tulsa fell to 12-11-4, a sixth-place standing. Tulsa, however, won the season series, 2-1, capturing the Black Gold Derby wrench trophy for the first time in three seasons.
