Energy FC U23s made their second trip to Tulsa in the last seven days. This trip was not as fruitful as the other. Three first-half goals led to a 5-3 loss to the USL side Tulsa Roughnecks FC.
Thirteen minutes into the match, the Roughnecks held a 2-0 lead. By the end of the first half, Tulsa had stretched their lead to 3-0. Statistically, the first half was dominated by Tulsa as they produced six total shots and held the U23s to zero.
The second half didn’t start much better for the U23s. By the 53rd minute, Tulsa had extended its lead to 5-0. Despite the long odds, the U23s started to mount a comeback.
In the 59th minute, Sven Koenig set up defender Mark Lindstrom for their first goal of the match. Four minutes later, Tulsa scored an own goal to get the U23s to within three. Ten minutes after that, Christian Okeke scored in the 73rd minute to draw the U23s to within two at 5-3. That is all the closer they would get.
The second half was statistically better for the U23s as they mustered 11 shots on goal and scored three times.
The U23s return to action this Saturday in a full day of soccer at Taft Stadium. Starting at 11 a.m., they take on Houston FC. That is followed by two Police Athletic League (PAL) matches at 1 and 3 p.m. Energy FC takes the field at 7 p.m. against Orange County SC. The U23 match as well as the PAL matches are FREE to attend with the purchase of a match to Energy FC match against Orange County. Tickets are available by calling the Energy FC office at 235-KICK.
