Energy FC U23 and the University of Central Oklahoma have agreed on a unique partnership for the 2017 season that allows the squad to play games and train at the soccer complex and live on campus.
In addition to the U23s staying and playing at UCO, the visiting teams will also stay on UCO’s campus for each match. This setup is modeled after the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL where the PDL team trains, plays and stays in the IMG campus.
“There are many positives to having our U23s stay, train and play at UCO’s facility,” said Energy FC U23 head coach Chris Spendlove. “In addition to having this one-of-a-kind situation, it also allows us to help showcase the Energy FC brand in a thriving soccer community like Edmond.”
The U23s will play a total of seven home matches during the season, five of them on the campus of UCO. The five matches at UCO are free for the public to attend. Match dates at UCO include May 13, 23; June 22, 24 and July 9. (see home schedule at the end of the release)
The other two U23 matches will be played prior to the Energy FC matches at Taft Stadium on Saturday, May 20 at 11 a.m. and Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. Admission to the U23 matches at Taft Stadium are free with the purchase of a ticket to the Energy FC match later that night.
The U23s open their season on Wednesday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the 1st round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on the road against the Tulsa Athletic.
